{"id":472,"date":"2023-04-12T16:35:29","date_gmt":"2023-04-12T15:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stoke-park.co.uk\/?p=472"},"modified":"2023-04-12T16:35:29","modified_gmt":"2023-04-12T15:35:29","slug":"volunteer-diary-winter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/stoke-park.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/04\/12\/volunteer-diary-winter\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer diary &#8211; Winter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This Winter our work was all about the P\u2019s &#8211; planting, pruning and ponds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Planting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are incredibly grateful to <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.tcv.org.uk\/cgi-bin\/greengym\/green_gyms?r=4\">The Conservation Volunteers<\/a> (Lockleaze Green Gym) who undertook the majority of this Winter\u2019s tree planting. Most of the trees were planted near the M32. The trees will enhance existing habitats and also hopefully screen out some of the traffic noise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pruning<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We pruned the pip fruits in our orchard under the guidance of the <a href=\"https:\/\/forestofavontrust.org\/\">Forest of Avon Trust<\/a>. One of our volunteers recently wrote <a href=\"http:\/\/stoke-park.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/01\/30\/orchard-pruning\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"http:\/\/stoke-park.co.uk\/index.php\/2023\/01\/30\/orchard-pruning\/\">a blog post about her experience<\/a> of being taught to prune the trees. We made a lot of progress on this during the Winter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four months ago, the Pale Plantation pond was completely covered by chest-high brambles.
